Resident Betty Moreau is Enjoying Carefree Living and New Friends at The Fountains

MOVE UP TO CAREFREE LIVING
Moving to the right retirement community can be a liberating experience. Have you thought about securing your own best future?

“I thought I would move up in the world… I figured I would give up the family home and the animals, all the nitty-gritty of everyday living.” – Betty Moreau, resident of The Fountains at Millbrook

MEET BETTY MOREAU, WHO SAID GOODBYE TO HER FAMILY HOME OF 50 YEARS IN LAGRANGEVILLE IN ORDER TO “MOVE UP” TO A BETTER WAY OF LIFE AT THE FOUNTAINS.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Betty Moreau on Monday, November 6th, 2017. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)

Growing up in Chicago, Betty’s family had an impressive Victory Garden and was very self reliant, from gardening to canning to raising chickens, ducks and rabbits. As a young adult she worked in a hospital lab and met her future husband in a bowling league. They married in 1954 and left Chicago in 1969 for Lagrangeville, courtesy of IBM. After stints in Japan and Hong Kong, they retired to Lagrangeville. Widowed in 2013, Betty moved to her two-bedroom, two-bath firehouse apartment at The Fountains in October, 2017. Now she enjoys friends her own age, bridge, fitness classes and “top drawer” dining, steps from her front door.

CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE, THEN YOUR PATH
Do you regard your retirement years as a time to hang on for dear life or a time to embrace the future? Do you think, “I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing as long as I possibly can” or do you think, “I’m going to start looking for a way to enjoy life more with friends”? Free will gives you choices. Betty Moreau’s positive attitude is clearly reflected in the path she chose, which gives her the freedom to fully enjoy all the years ahead. “I’m here to just enjoy the new neighborhood and make it my own and look forward to meeting everybody else that’s my age rather than all those young people that have more energy and are more outgoing. I’m glad to be here and be safe and sound and have a nice neighborhood to live in.” – Betty Moreau

GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK
Betty got to know The Fountains by visiting friends there for over 17 years, so she felt right at home from the get go. Now, instead of rambling around in a big, empty house and driving to bridge and exercise at the senior center, she finds everything a few steps outside her front door. She loves the convenience and instead of shopping, cooking and cleaning, she has more time for fun. Her full kitchen remains immaculate as she dines with different delightful neighbors every night. “…the fact that the dining room is so elaborate I haven’t shopped for food yet… Isn’t that something? No heavy milk, no heavy cans, no anything. It’s just wonderful.” – Betty Moreau

YOU CAN STILL DRIVE, BUT WHY BOTHER?
Carefree living is helping Betty thrive. Her car, “Herbie,” is rarely used because The Fountains takes her wherever she wants to go. She’s made many friends in a short time and rarely misses community events, scheduled every day of the week, either on location or just a bus ride away. “They take me shopping or grocery shopping or church, you know, make the whole event of driving and trying to park and know where you’re going, at what time negotiable, because they do it all.” – Betty Moreau
